Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco was born in Canada, and is now American. Her catalog includes more than twenty albums. The songs of DiFranco are classified as folk and alternative rock. However, they also have influences from hip hop music, jazz and punk. Ani Difranco is acknowledged as a pioneer for feminist music. In 1990, she was among the first artists to create her own label independently. DiFranco was born in Buffalo New York on September 23rd, 1970. She was her parents Elizabeth (Ross) and Dante Americo DiFranco, who had been in contact while at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her mother was born in Montreal and her father has Italian descent. Her song 32 Flavors was written by her and sung by Ani. It is featured on the sixth album Not a Pretty Girl by Ani diFranco. It was which was released in the year 1996. The song was featured in the soundtrack to the Canadian romantic comedy Better Than Chocolate, released in 1999. DiFranco apologized in 2013 when it was announced that she was planning to hold an event for three days at an Louisiana slave plantation. It was postponed, but some (including the media) didn't consider it a gesture of regret. DiFranco issued a further apology days later. She is known for her Little Folksinger music, but she has worked with several different genres and artists that range from Pete Seeger to Chuck D. New Orleans is where she is based. Ani was born Kristen Ford. At 14, she began to compose her own music. She played them at cafes and bars throughout her teenage years. DiFranco attended Buffalo State College after graduating at the age of 16 from Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts.
