The reporter has reported on various sports for major publications around the globe. Her tenure working at The Washington Post was spent with numerous Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis, football and basketball. Nichols joined ESPN at the beginning of 2004. She stayed for 9 years at the network, earning the network two Emmy Awards. She also featured on the most watched shows on ESPN such as SportsCenter and NFL Countdown. She also served as a sideline journalist for the Monday Night Football broadcasts. The next step was to CNN followed by Turner Sports. Unguarded was a program that she co-produced and hosted was telecast every day on CNN International. The show drew over one billion viewers across the whole world. In the course of this broadcast, Nichols covered TNT's NBA broadcasts which included regular season, playoffs and the All-Star broadcast teams. Apart from reporting for TBS, she also covered baseball and golf broadcasts and Final Four on CBS. Through the history of 42 years of the award, this was the first time that women were one of the nominees.
